KUCHING, Oct 24: “Kami ka manok sabung baru ba Julau’ literally meansWe want a new fighting cock in Julau’,” says Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin.

He said the need for a new candidate is the voice of those at the grassroots level to represent Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) in Julau in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

“We want a new wakil rakyat (people’s representative) in Julau. This is the voice of the rakyat (people), and for the sake of the rakyat, please listen to their voices,” Rolland told DayakDaily today.

He added that if GPS nominates a new face, the seat could be wrested back from the Opposition.

“We want a new face and not a recycled face. We are very confident that we can win because I always move around in my kawasan (area). And sometimes, I spend my time in Pakan, which is partly under my area also.

“So, hopefully, our top GPS leadership will pick the right person if we want to take back the seat. That’s my words. So, hopefully, the top leaders will listen to the present assemblymen (ADUN) like myself, who represents N.48 (Meluan) and Tan Sri (William) Mawan (Ikom), who represents N.47 (Pakan).

“With these two ADUNs, I’m sure we can win back the seat. The cooperation among these two ADUNs will definitely be able to take back the seat,” assured Rolland, who is vice-president of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

He said every year, RM5 million from his RTP (rural transformation programme) is put into developing projects apart from Projek Rakyat, including RM10 million for Meluan Bridge, RM20 million for Jalan Ulu Entaip-Rh Sang, and Jalan Rh Dana-Rh Suntik which has been upgraded to a tar-sealed road. In addition, new bridges at Ng Lasik and Ulu Entabai will be built soon.

“If we include the cost of the electricity power link through the grid, which costs RM75 million, and SARES (Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme) worth RM21 million, all in all, nearly more than RM100 million has been spent for various projects in Meluan in the past five years,” said Rolland, adding that electricity supply is now at almost 100 per cent coverage with the power from both the grid and SARES, as well as treated water and gravity feed.

“This makes people believe in GPS. That’s why I said just now the people in Julau miss GPS representatives so much. We need a new face in Julau so that we can work closely. I know who the person is, but I must let the Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) announce his name. But I’m confident that he can win,” assured Rolland. — DayakDaily
