KUCHING, July 23: State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced the Melbourne PUI cluster as a new cluster in Sarawak yesterday when the second case was reported.
The first case of the cluster (Case 587) found positive of Covid-19 on July 17 was a local student who just returned from Melbourne, Australia.
When she first arrived at Kuching International Airport (KIA) from Kuala Lumpur, she was brought to a quarantine centre directly where Covid-19 screening was done.
Following her positive Covid-19 result, close contact tracking was done on the flight she took to Kuching and the second case of the cluster was found.
Thus, the committee has summarised a total of eight active clusters in Sarawak, which are the engineering cluster, Mambong cluster, medical centre cluster, Jupiter cluster, Stutong market cluster, jetty cluster, Sentosa cluster and Melbourne PUI cluster reported today.
On a related issue, Stutong market cluster, Sentosa cluster and engineering company cluster have reported one new case each today, resulting in a total of seven, eight, and three cumulative cases respectively. —DayakDaily
