KUCHING, March 25: Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) supports the federal government’s move to extend the Movement Control Order (MCO) to April 14 as short-term pain is always better than long-term lingering suffering.
Its president Lina Soo highlighted Sarawak now has 87 positive cases with the highest number of deaths in the country at five.
She added that there are about 60 cases which are still under investigation and there is always the risk a number may be found to be positive and potential spreaders.
So far, Malaysia has 1,624 cases with 16 deaths.
“This is a sobering figure and since the onset of MCO eight days ago, there has been an increase of more than 100 confirmed cases every single day.
“This is a case for alarm, as testing has not (been) as rigorous, an essential strategy to combat the Covid-19,” Soo opined in a statement today.
She noted it has been discovered that the incubation period for Covid-19 may take up to 20 days.
“Many carriers of the virus are walking around with no symptoms; that is why Covid-19 can spread so fast in the European nations affected by the virus.”
She noted that Covid-19 is a contagious and virulent coronavirus and it becomes more ferocious with each wave, as the history of pandemics show.
“Malaysia cannot afford to make the slightest mistake. Covid-19 has ravaged economies and brought the healthcare systems of many countries to its (sic) knees.
“Again, I urge the Sarawak government to seal off completely all borders with Brunei, Sabah and Kalimantan and shut down the CIQs (Customs, Immigration and Quarantine centres), until our neighbours on Borneo island are declared free of Covid-19.
“Short-term sharp pain is always better than long-term lingering pain.
“The Sarawak government must do all it can to wipe off Covid-19 completely off the shores and surface of Sarawak.
“I believe the Sarawak government and our people together can achieve this goal within one month in the spirit of collaboration and esprit de corps,” Soo emphasised. — DayakDaily
