KUCHING, Sept 26: Two food premises in the Bandar Baru Permyjaya Commercial area had been warned and served with notices by Miri City Council (MCC) for using used cooking oil.

Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said the Council is taking sterner action against operators of food establishments for repeatedly using used cooking oil for cooking in light of more consumers expressing concern about using used cooking oil in food and beverage businesses in Miri City.

“During the latest joint inspection carried out by MCC’s Public Health Section and Enforcement Department as well as Miri Division Health Office, cooking oil had been tested on-site, and some readings were above the acceptable level of which the Total Polar Compound (TPC) reading is higher than 25 per cent.

“Given this, two food premises located at Bandar Baru Permyjaya Commercial area had been given verbal warnings, and notices had been served on them to stop using used cooking oil,” he said in a report after chairing the MCC ordinary meeting today.

He also mentioned that MCC, in collaboration with Public Health authorities and health officers from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), will conduct inspections from time to time.

The public can lodge their complaints or furnish information on this matter to MCC or notify the Miri Division Health Office. — DayakDaily
