MCC offers 50 pct discount for parking compounds, extends amnesty period to July 31

KUCHING, June 27: Miri City Council (MCC) has decided to extend the amnesty period for parking compounds until July 31, 2022, offering parking defaulters a 50 per cent discount during the ‘Semak & Bayar Parkir Kompaun Anda’ campaign.

According to a statement by the council, outstanding parking fees can be checked via MCC’s website (www.miricitycouncil.gov.my), Borneo Parking Systems Sdn Bhd’s website (www.borneoparking.com), or the Smart Parking Borneo app.

“The payment of outstanding parking compounds can be made through all the parking booths in Miri City or the ‘Smart Parking Borneo’ app,” it said.


The statement added that the Smart Parking Borneo app is available for download via Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, as well as for Huawei phone users with Android Operating System, excluding the Harmony Operating System.

It also stated that payment can be made via credit card, debit card, Sarawak Pay Global, Boost eWallet Malaysia, and other methods.

Yii clarified that the amnesty period had been extended to allow more vehicle owners to settle their outstanding parking compounds before the Council takes sterner action to recover the outstanding parking fees.

Meanwhile, Yii also congratulated deputy mayor Julaihi Mohamad and all councillors on the extension of their current terms from July 1 to December 31, 2022.

Yii also mentioned during today’s meeting in the Miri City Hall Chamber that the council attended an oath-taking and turnover ceremony by the Municipality of La Trinidad in the Province of Benguet, Republic of the Philippines, last week.

The delegation from MCC comprises Yii, acting city secretary Abdul Rahman Taupek, councillors Abdullah Jaini and Nicholas Toh Kah Shiong, and assistant secretary of corporate affairs, Mohd Zaidi Adrus Razali.

“In addition to attending the official ceremony, both local authorities had productive sessions regarding the promotion of tourism, local culture, agriculture, and farming.”

It added that Wee thanked La Trinidad Municipal mayor Romeo Salda and his councillors and council officials for their hospitality and invited them along with City of Baguio mayor Benjamin Banez Magalong to attend the Miri City Christmas Parade in the first week of December this year.

The statement also added that MCC, in collaboration with the Miri Resident Office, will hold a ‘Miri Car-Free Day 2022’ on July 16 from 6am to 10am at North Yu Seng Road along the Miri Wireless Walk.

“This programme has the support from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), and two other organisations.

“The organising committee has invited Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to grace the occasion,” it said. — DayakDaily
