KUCHING, May 14: Miri City Council (MCC) said individual sports and recreational activities at public parks and recreational areas are allowed under the additional standard operating procedures (SOPs) updated on May 10 for the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period from May 7 to May 17.

However, the council in a press statement today clarified that group activities for which it is difficult to practise physical distancing at public parks and recreational grounds are prohibited.

MCC reminded all individuals to observe physical distancing, refrain from gathering in groups, avoid crowded areas and put on face masks while engaging in sports and recreational activities at public parks and recreational grounds.

The council had earlier released a statement for the SOPs of recreational activities at public parks but did not explain in detail the requirements such as observing physical distancing, refraining from gathering in groups and so forth, thus causing inconvenience to park goers.

Apart from that, MCC reminded operators of shopping complexes, supermarkets and department stores that they are allowed to operate their businesses as long as the number of customers inside the premises does not exceed 50 per cent of its capacity.

The council stressed that operators have to strictly abide by the SOPs determined by the Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC). — DayakDaily
