KUCHING, March 20: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has used sound trucks to disseminate messages and information with regards to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19)
MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the initiative was a personal approach to ensure the city population abide by the Restricted Movement Order (RMO) and minimise the spread of the virus.
“This is our proactive approach to inform Kuchingites to take the RMO seriously because the Covid-19 pandemic is very serious. So, let us all play our part to combat the outbreak,” Wee said.
He hoped that employers not allow their employees to work during the RMO period.
“I have come across premises such as hair salons and other beauty and health centres still operating behind closed shutters and doors. I would urge them to stop straight away.
“Now is not the time to make profit. Please have pity on the medical personnel who have sacrificed so much to attend to patients at the hospitals. So please, don’t add more numbers to the patients,” he continued.
On another note, he was thankful to the food operators who abide by the rules set up by the council during the RMO period.
“We are working very closely with the police to ensure the people abide by the RMO,” he said.
Wee assured that the daily supply chain of food items such as vegetables, fruits and meat will continue as usual, albeit in a controlled manner.
“The wholesale market at Stutong Hawker Centre will have its operations limited to few hours nightly from the normal 10pm to 6am,” he said. — DayakDaily
