KUCHING, Jan 16: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) today launched its Chinese New Year Music Video 2026, continuing its tradition of using creative storytelling to promote unity, harmony and inclusiveness among the city’s diverse communities.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the production, now in its third consecutive year, has grown into a meaningful annual initiative that reflects the true spirit of Kuching South as a city built on mutual respect and togetherness.
“This music video is not just about celebrating Chinese New Year. It is about showcasing the values that define Kuching South — a city that is diverse, inclusive and united,” he said during the launch ceremony held at MBKS building here today.
According to Wee, the video highlights harmony among the people, emphasising that festive celebrations in Kuching are shared by all regardless of race, background or culture.
“Chinese New Year is one of the festive celebrations filled with joy and hope, and in Kuching, it is a celebration shared by everyone.
“This production sends a clear message that regardless of race, background or culture, we come together as one community to celebrate, support and respect each other,” he added.
He also expressed pride that all talents featured in the video are Sarawakians, involving local singers, dancers and performers who collaborated with what he described as “one heart and one spirit”.
Wee further noted that the involvement of not only the Chinese community but also Malays and Bumiputera in the production serves as a powerful symbol of harmony in action, proving that unity in Kuching South goes beyond slogans. – DayakDaily
