KUCHING, Aug 6: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is recycling banners promoting loan sharks or used banners around town into fashionable recycled bags.

MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said this on his ShallWeeTalk Facebook live session today while showing his audience a recycled bag with the words ‘YAB DATO’.

He said the bag was made from a banner that used to be put up in town.

For those who would like to report on banners promoting loan sharks or illegal loans, he said members of the public can contact 010-660 1919 through WhatsApp.

“If you see any of those banners around, let us know. We will collect them and turn them into recycled bags like this. It has a huge capacity, and it can fit a lot of items.

“So, this is one of our initiatives to work toward an environmentally-friendly society,” said Wee.

He said used banners that are collected would be sent to single mothers for them to sew into recycling bags.

Wee, however, did not disclose further details on whether the recycled bags will be for sale in future. — DayakDaily
