MBKS to address frequent flash flood woes

KUCHING, July 18: A meeting to address frequent flash floods within Kuching South City Council (MBKS) jurisdiction will be held this Monday, July 20.

Expressing his concern over the perennial flash floods including the one after heavy downpour last night, MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng visited the areas namely Tabuan Dayak, Lorong Kedandi 6 and Lorong Urat Mata 2 to meet up with the victims.

Together with him were MBKS councilors and officers from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID).

“Over the years, MBKS has been doing its best to upgrade the drains under its jurisdiction. Nevertheless, a meeting will be held this Monday with DID and councilors to discuss on this flash flood issue,” Wee said in a statement.

He also cautioned the community particularly those residing in the low-lying areas to be more cautious when heavy rains coincided with the King Tide.-DayakDaily
