KUCHING, Oct 30: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) swimming pool in Padungan here will remain open until further notice, says MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

He said the facilities will remain operational until the commencement of the family water fun park and gastronomy centre construction projects next year.

The overall blueprint and designs, he added, would be finalised in a meeting tomorrow (Oct 31).

“Next year, the projects will be open for tender. So, while we are still working on these documents, we will keep the swimming pool open (for public use),” he said during his weekly ‘ShallWeeTalk’ Facebook live session yesterday (Oct 29).

Wee was responding to an inquiry from a netizen about the date of closing of the MBKS swimming pool to make way for the upgrading works.

With Kuching newly designated as the first city in Malaysia to be recognised as a Unesco Creative City of Gastronomy, the MBKS swimming pool will be transformed into a family water fun park and the Centre of Gastronomy.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by 2024 or before the next gastronomy meeting in 2025. — DayakDaily
