KUCHING, Sept 27: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng highlighted the council’s efforts in participatory and inclusive governance to improve public health outcomes at the 10th Global Conference of the Alliance for Healthy Cities in Seoul, Korea.
Organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the conference featured a special session where mayors and city officials from around the world discussed ways to strengthen participatory, multisectoral, and multi-level urban governance to enhance citizens’ health.
In a statement today, Wee emphasised MBKS’s commitment to prioritising health in its policies, aiming to create a city that meets current residents’ needs while promoting a healthy and sustainable environment for future generations.
“We are proud that MBKS was selected to showcase our experiences in front of delegations from countries such as Australia, Cambodia, China, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. This opportunity further elevates Kuching and Sarawak on the international stage, reinforcing our dedication to building a healthier and more inclusive city,” said Wee.
During the event, MBKS’s achievements in the Child Friendly City Initiative (CFCI) and the No Plastic Straw Strategy were highlighted as key initiatives contributing to a sustainable and livable urban environment.
