KUCHING, Feb 13: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has directed the developer involved in the incident whereby a construction crane lost its balance and toppled onto two semi-detached double-storey houses at Lorong Stutong Baru 4 here on Thursday (Feb 12) to submit a written explanation within seven days.
In a press release, the council said that the explanation should detail the cause of the incident, the safety measures and supervision in place, the immediate actions taken, and the proposed rectification and compensation plan for the affected homeowners.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng expressed serious concern over the incident and said the council views the matter with utmost seriousness, as it involves public safety and damage to private properties
“Although no injuries were reported, both affected houses sustained damage, particularly to their roof structures. The developer has since commenced repair works to rectify the damage.
“Public safety is our highest priority. We will not compromise when it comes to safety compliance at construction sites within our jurisdiction,” he said.
He further disclosed that the council’s letter to the developer has been copied to the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Sarawak (DOSH) Sarawak and the Construction Industry Development Board Sarawak (CIDB) Sarawak for their information and necessary action.
“We expect full cooperation from the developer and all relevant parties to facilitate a thorough investigation. At the same time, the affected residents must be given a fair and timely resolution.
