KUCHING, July 21: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen is urging Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng to immediately stop the authorised construction of a telecommunication tower at Lorong Stutong 13B, in a mini park at Tabuan Jaya Baru 1 here.
Chong said the contractor was granted wayleave approval to erect the telco tower at Lorong Stutong 20C, another site across the main road with sufficient space for the new structure.
However, when confronted by residents yesterday (July 20), Chong said the contractor insisted on erecting the telco tower at Lorong Stutong 13B.
“So, today we’re here at MBKS. We have written and submitted a letter to the mayor to remind him of what he promised in an earlier meeting (with the residents).
“We also urge him to enforce the wayleave approval that was granted so that the telco tower will not be erected in the park, which is r mini park.
“It’s very small. If you construct a telco tower there, it will restrict the residents’ leisure activities,” said Chong in a Facebook live stream at the entrance of MBKS headquarters this morning.
Chong also emphasised that this matter is urgent as the contractor said they would complete the telco tower erection by today. — DayakDaily
