KUCHING, July 27: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng tells critics of the Kuching Food Festival 2023 (KFF) not to “kacau-kacau” (spoil) the event which will be held from July 28 to August 20.
Wee advised these critics to stay away from the festival if they don’t like it and reminded them that an event which receives over 1 million visitors in 24 days is not easy to maintain and build over the years.
“If you don’t like it well, just stay at home… what to do… jangan ‘kacau-kacau’ lah (don’t spoil) because it is not, right. Because this is the platform for a lot of our youngsters and for them to try on their new ventures.
“They also want to do their best,” he told reporters during a press conference before receiving a mock cheque for RM20,000 from Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd.
Wee said this year’s KFF will see new and creative food and local chef had been engaged to not only cook the food but demonstrate its preparation.
“For those interested to learn to be creative on Sarawak ingredients in food, do drop by. We have got programmes for everybody. You can join what you want to do.
“We thank the sponsors that come in. I think they help us and show their confidence in supporting the event. I am sure a company will not support the event if this festival does not contribute to our Sarawak.”
Wee emphasised that the festival is for the community and for young people to establish new ventures.
“This festival is a good way to do it and make us proud Sarawakians because I think those who can contribute in one way or another, you are more than welcome,” he said.
