KUCHING, May 9: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng visited fire victims at Kampung Tabuan Dayak this morning after receiving word that four houses had been destroyed by fire on Saturday evening (May 7).
Wee was accompanied by councillors Mok Chuang Ping, Goh Tze Hui, and Kho Teck Wan and distributed cooking utensils, a stove, a kettle, diapers, and milk to the 33 fire victims staying at the All Saintsā Churchās temporary shelter.
According to a statement released today, the mayor advised residents to be vigilant and knowledgeable about fire safety and prevention to avoid further property losses.
He thanked the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) for their quick response in preventing the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
He also encouraged homeowners to keep a fire extinguisher on hand and advised children to always stay away from fire hazards.
Residents and businesses were also warned not to block or tamper with fire hydrants, which violates the law and severely impedes Bombaās rescue efforts.
The statement pointed out that the Land and Survey Department and the Bomba must conduct additional checks and evaluations to ensure fire hydrants are installed at strategic locations to prevent future problems.
āMBKS, in collaboration with the Bomba, will soon conduct a series of inspections, and those who have been tampering with fire hydrants in residences or business areas will face the consequences.” ā DayakDaily
