KUCHING, Aug 31: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng is participating in the UNCRD International Training Workshop On Smart Cities for Building Inclusive, Resilient and Sustainable Cities and Communities, in Toyota City, Japan.
According to a press statement today, the workshop focuses on sharing ideas and knowledge, particularly Toyota City’s efforts as a smart city in their initiatives not only in transportation but also in smart home technology, renewable energy, green vehicles, infrastructure, and hydrogen fuel—all aligned with their commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Wee witnessed Toyota City’s cutting-edge smart home systems, which incorporate intelligent automation, data-driven decision-making, and enhanced energy efficiency.
During the discussion with the Mayor of Toyota City, Wee was briefed on details on Toyota City’s successful integration of sustainable power solutions into urban areas and on the presence of over 160 hydrogen fuel stations throughout Japan.
Wee pointed out that earlier in the year, the Sarawak government received five Toyota Mirai units from UMW Toyota.
He shared that Sarawak is the only State in Malaysia with a hydrogen station, a testament to its commitment to promoting green energy.
Wee praised Toyota City’s innovative approach in embracing the smart city concept, saying this initiative could hold significant promise for Kuching City’s aspiration to create a sustainable and technologically advanced urban environment.
He later extended an invitation to the Mayor of Toyota City to visit Kuching City and the possibility of exchanging knowledge regarding the smart city concept. — DayakDaily
