KUCHING, Dec 12: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has launched its second bus stop which promotes Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) near Imperial Duck Restaurant in Jalan Padungan here today.

The bus stop was installed with a signboard aimed to create awareness on the United Nations’ (UN) “SDG No. 2: Zero Hunger” which seeks sustainable solutions to end hunger and achieve food security.

This particular project was implemented in collaboration with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Kuching with the financial support contributed by private company Yast Group amounting to RM3,500.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng explained that the SDG bus stop signboard project will involve a total of 17 bus stops in Kuching City and they will serve as informative spaces in promoting the 17 SDGs.

“After (JCI Kuching) has completed all the 17 SDG bus stops, I hope that you will continue the programme to go into schools for further awareness campaigns. Let us now work together because even though it’s a bus stop, let’s not stop here,” he said after the launch.

Meanwhile, JCI immediate past president Argenis Angulo who came all the way from Venezuela to be here commended the efforts of JCI Kuching and Yast Group as well as MBKS for its support.

“The young leaders of JCI are investing their time and energy with the support of our leaders and the resources. They can build together to create this kind of opportunity and what we are called to do is to retribute such efforts to continuously improve the lifestyle of Kuching citizens,” he pointed out.

Also present at the launching ceremony were Yast Group chairperson Esther Law and MBKS deputy mayor Dato Dr Zaiedi Suhaili.

The first SDG bus stop is located opposite ‘The Frame of MBKS’ along Jalan Padungan which promotes “SDG No. 1: No Poverty”. It was launched on Nov 7, 2023.
