KUCHING, Feb 8: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will roll out four mass anti-rabies vaccination campaigns this year, starting on Feb 15.

This initiative will also include microchipping, pet licensing and subsidised neutering.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng announced that the vaccination campaign in all four venues will run from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

“This is crucial as there are still rabies cases in our community with two being reported in Taman Genesis and Desa Wira in Batu Kawa in the week between Feb 3 and 7.

“The case in Taman Genesis involved a pet dog while in Desa Wira related to a stray dog,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk live session today.

The first vaccination drive on Feb 15 will be conducted at Sarawak Badminton Association in Lorong Lapangan Terbang 1 (next to former Four Point Hotel).

This will be followed by April 12 at MBKS’ Community Hall in Jalan Padungan, July 5 at Song Swee Guan Recreation Park in Tabuan Jaya, and Oct 4 at Sarawak Association Basketball Court in Taman Seng Goon.

“Mark these dates and bring your pets for their annual vaccination. Don’t forget to bring the necessary documents,” Wee reminded pet owners.

Regarding cat vaccinations, he stated that he has discussed and will follow up on the matter with Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (SSPCA), as the non-profit organisation has allocated a budget to support the initiative.

“I will provide an update after further discussions with SSPCA,” he assured. — DayakDaily
