KUCHING, Nov 17: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dongcheng District in China to collaborates in heritage preservation, cultural exchanges, tourism promotions, and youth engagement programmes.
According to a press release today, the MoU was signed by MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng prior to attending China International Friendship City Forum held in Kunming, Yunnan Province on Nov 16.
At the forum, Wee emphasised the potential for collaboration in various fields, highlighting Kuching South’s recognition as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
He also proposed for an exchange to showcase the unique cuisines of both cities and facilitate international recognition of their rich cultural heritage.
Following that, Wee extended an official invitation to Dongcheng District to participate in the upcoming Malaysia (Sarawak)-China Cooperation Forum and Mayors’ Roundtable on Friendship Cities Collaboration, scheduled for Dec 18-20, in Kuching.
The event, held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations, aims to bring together leaders from Malaysia and China to explore avenues for deeper partnerships and shared prosperity.
Speaking at the forum, Wee said that the Malaysia (Sarawak)-China Cooperation Forum will serve as a historic occasion to commemorate half a century of friendship while fostering new opportunities for mutual growth and development. — DayakDaily
