KUCHING, April 2: With effect from April 1, the MBKS Indoor Stadium will be closed to public access.

In a statement today, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng revealed that the council has officially handed over the MBKS Indoor Stadium to the appointed contractors, Liscorp Services and Cottage Holdings Sdn Bhd, for upgrading works as the stadium will be one of the venues to host Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 in August.

He highlighted that the handover of the stadium is to allow for works to be implemented in two packages with funding from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak and MBKS.

The work will focus on installing FIBA Level 1 compliant timber sports flooring, painting, renovation of toilets, main doors, gutters and rainwater discharge system, and associated external works around the building.

However, he revealed the surrounding park and MBKS Sports Village will remain open to the public.
