KUCHING, July 15: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has initiated enforcement actions to address the issue of individuals or business operators placing objects to hog and reserve parking lots in public areas.
Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the council has received complaints regarding this matter two days ago.
“We want to advise people not to hog public parking spaces as they are public and not privately owned facilities.
“Let’s respect and adhere to the first-come-first-serve principle. Don’t forcefully occupy the parking lots when you are not paying for it,” he urged during his ShallWeeTalk online session with the community today.
Considering that areas with a coupon system have a limited number of parking spaces available, Wee highlighted that the council will now restrict the issuance of paid long-term parking spaces.
“If more parking spaces are permanently occupied legally or blocked, it would cause inconvenience for customers and this will also have a negative impact on local businesses,” he said.
Wee urged everyone to cooperate and develop a greater understanding of the situation as those who hogged public parking spaces do not pay for it.
By working together and embracing this mindset, the public can ensure a fair and efficient use of parking resources for the benefit of the entire community. ā DayakDaily
