KUCHING, Aug 22: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng says that the council is actively pursuing a dog believed to have bitten a nurse at a private clinic in the Stutong Commercial Centre area here on Monday (Aug 21).
According to Wee, the operation to track and capture the animal began on Monday, as soon as the incident was reported.
āThere is a stray dog that went into the clinic and bit a nurse on the left leg and right hand, who was immediately sent to the hospital for treatment.
āThe incident occurred at around 12 noon at a clinic near the Stutong Commercial Centre shophouse area.
āThey have treated (the nurse) at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the next follow-up will be on Aug 24. SHG has also informed the vets (veterinary clinics) about this incident,ā he explained.
He went on to say that MBKS was able to capture two strays, but one of them escaped and ran into the nearby forest.
āMBKS has been going around conducting daily routine operations from Monday to Saturday. For urgent cases, the team even works on Sundays.
āWe also work very closely with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sarawak and the Divisional Health Office (PKB) on bitten cases because once a case is reported, we must rush to the scene.
āIn addition to our routine dog (stray dog) catching, we have received applications from the general public, which is quite frequent now, that people are surrendering their āunwanted dogsā, which is why we will need the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) and those who can assist us,ā he said, adding that they are compiling the numbers to determine how many have applied.
Wee also advised the public that if they choose to have pets, they must be prepared to care for them.
āEven if they grow old, become ill, or lose their beauty, you must still care for them as if they were human. Donāt just throw them away or give them up like that. That is not how you should treat your pets,ā he added. ā DayakDaily
