KUCHING, July 17: Compound fees for not displaying parking coupons will be waived for those who were not informed of the resumption of parking coupon system fees within MBKS’ jurisdiction.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said uninformed members of the public who were issued such compounds would only need to pay for the coupon fees amounting to RM0.20, RM0.50 or RM0.80, depending on the duration.
He said this was a special waiver as MBKS did not put up the resumption announcement in time to inform the public.
“We received several complaints from the people that they did not know the coupon system had resumed, so many did not display their coupons when parking and received compounds for it.
“Here, I wish to apologise to the people, for not releasing this announcement immediately on our social media for the public’s information.
“So to be fair, any compounds issued within MBKS jurisdictions will be waived,” he said during a Facebook live session today.
The parking coupon fee system was scheduled to resume on July 14, the day Sarawak transitioned into Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
A Facebook post quoting Sin Chew Sarawak regarding the recommencement of MBKS’ parking system was released on Wee’s page in the afternoon of July 14, but there was no official announcement on any other MBKS official page.
On the late announcement, the mayor explained that MBKS was still in discussion with the parking companies at the time, thus causing the delay. ā DayakDaily
