Mavcom: Alice’s appointment brings women’s perspective to air transport, aid initiatives like Rural Air Services in Sarawak, Sabah

KUCHING, April 11: The appointment of Dato Ir Alice Jawan Empaling to the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) will aid the implementation of various initiatives in East Malaysia, namely the administration of Rural Air Services in the interiors of Sabah and Sarawak.

Mavcom executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim emphasised that Alice’s appointment will bring the perspective of women in the transportation industry, particularly for air transport.

“Mavcom is grateful to the Minister of Transport (Anthony Loke) on Aliceā€™s appointment to the Commission.


“Alice brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in the public sector with her role as permanent secretary to the Ministry of Transport Sarawak and her tenure at the Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunication Sarawak, amongst others.

“Alongside our existing members of the Commission, we are confident that her breadth of experience will be instrumental in strengthening our efforts to promote a commercially viable, consumer-oriented, and resilient aviation industry which supports the nationā€™s economic growth,” he said in a statement today.

Thanking the Federal Ministry of Transport and welcoming Alice on board the Commission, Saripuddin added that Mavcom looks forward to her contribution that will further enhance diversity and inclusivity at Mavcom that would ultimately have a positive impact on the Commission.

Alice will serve as Mavcom’s new member of Commission for a term of three years, effective from March 28, 2023 to March 27, 2026.

In addition, Alice had served as the Sarawak Buoys and Lights Board (LBAS) chairperson, Sarawak Road Safety Council executive chairperson and Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) deputy chairperson.

She is also an adjunct professor with University Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) Engineering Faculty since 2021. ā€” DayakDaily
