KUCHING, April 5: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Fair Sarawak 2025 kicked off today at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), with organisers aiming to surpass last year’s impressive RM9 million in travel package sales.

Now featuring 102 booths—up from 82 in 2024—this year’s event promises even better deals for both domestic and international travellers.

According to Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (Tourism) Datuk Snowdan Lawan, last year’s two-day fair recorded transactions worth RM9 million.

“With more participation this year, we’re hopeful of going beyond that,” he said after officiating the Matta Fair Sarawak 2025 opening ceremony.

Snowdan noted that Matta Fair not only supports the post-Covid-19 recovery of the travel industry, but also directly boosts the business of local travel agencies.

The fair also places strong emphasis on rural tourism, encouraging travel beyond major urban centres such as Kuching, Miri, Sibu, and Bintulu.

He added that eco and cultural tourism packages are being developed to draw visitors to more remote parts of Sarawak, offering them opportunities to experience traditional lifestyles and natural beauty.
