Maths whiz from Serian top global scorer in Cambridge Advanced Subsidiary A-Level Maths exams

KUCHING, Dec 11: Aezzra Marvin Vincent, 18, from Kampung Engkeroh Serian achieved global recognition after he scored the top mark among one million students sitting for the Cambridge Advanced Subsidiary A-Level Mathematics exams globally last July.

When contacted, Aezzra said he was fascinated with figures and naturally in Mathematics.

“I just love figures and Mathematics comes naturally to me,” Aezzra told DayakDaily today.

When asked for his advice for other students looking to excel in the subject, Aezzra said students should not be scared of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.

“Nothing is impossible. You just have to be patient and willing to learn by asking your teachers. Or we can always go to the Internet,” said Aezzra, who received an Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award at Subang Jaya, Selangor recently.

Aezzra’s father Vincent Ragot said his son was a keen learner and enthusiastic about discovering new things ever since he was young.

“He loved counting, even rubber seeds when we went to the rubber garden. He also loved nature. He was a very observant on things around him,” said Vincent who is a science teacher at SK Serian.

Aezzra is currently is learning the German language at the German-Malaysian Institute, Kajang, Selangor and would be taking up chemical engineering in Germany. His studies in Germany will be fully sponsored under a MARA scholarship.

More than 1 million students from 10,000 schools worldwide including in the United States of America, United Kingdom, China, India, Singapore, Europe, Africa and the Middle East sat for the Cambridge A-Level Examinations this year.

Aezzra earned 5As in his Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) at SK Lobang Batu, Serian and later pursued his studies at Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Kuching where he scored 10As in his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exams.

Meanwhile, Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem hoped that other Bidayuh students will emulate Aezzra’s success, especially his interest in STEM subjects. — DayakDaily
