KUCHING, Nov 1: Matang Wildlife Centre’s picnic spots will be temporarily closed from today until Dec 31 this year.

This included Sungai Rayu and Sungai Senduk Waterfall as well as the trekking trail to Kubah National Park.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) said the temporary closure is due to unfavourable and unpredictable weather conditions.

In a separate post, SFC also announced the temporary closure of Matang Family Park Stage 2.

“The Matang Family Park Stage 2 will be closed starting Nov 1 until Dec 31 due to the monsoon season as we will be experiencing a rise in the water level and this will increase the flow of the river which is not safe for any water-based activities, as well as to avoid unfortunate incidents from occurring,” it said.

Additionally, all hiking trails in Kubah National Park (KNP) will be closed during any unfavourable weather conditions such as heavy rain, continuous rain, strong wind and after heavy or continuous rain, to avoid fallen branches and slippery trails.

However, KNP will continue with its frogging activity where visitors are required to book their slot preferably one day before their intended trip.

“You would need to purchase your entry ticket to KNP at our Visitor Information Centre (VIC) located at the Old Courthouse before 2pm daily or at KNP Ticketing Booth from 10am to 3pm daily.

“You would need to hire a park guide before embarking on your frogging activity trip and here is the link https://sarawakforestry.com/licensed-park-guides/ for the licensed park guides for KNP.

“Please bring along your entry ticket and the visitor registration form obtainable at the VIC and failure to comply with the above, may lead to denial of entry into KNP,” it said. — DayakDaily
