KUCHING, May 21: The Matang Camp Committee has received two water tanks from Weida Integrated Industries Sdn Bhd as part of the efforts to revive camp facilities since last March.

According to the Matang Camp Committee, the camp which was officially opened on Sept 15, 1990 by Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, who was the chief minister then, was neglected for some time and suffered damage.

“Recently, a concerted effort has been made to rehabilitate the camp site,” it said in a statement today.

On the same note, the Matang Camp Committee said the camp also serves as an outdoor training ground for Scouts and Girl Guides as well as members of other youth organisations in Sarawak.

“The committee hopes that more companies can emulate Weida Integrated Industries Sdn Bhd’s generous efforts in helping the Scouts and Girl Guides,” the statement added.

The water tanks were handed over by Weida Integrated Industries Sdn Bhd’s representative Jackson Johet to Assistant State Scout Commissioner Ngatiman Sarepin, who is also the supervising officer of the site cleaning work representing the Camp Committee, during a brief ceremony held here this morning. — DayakDaily
