Masing: I will sink or swim with BN

KUCHING, May 14: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing pledges his allegiance to Barisan Nasional (BN).

He said that is because he had been paid by the BN government as a minister and would not betray BN in whatever circumstances.

“I am always grateful to the BN government for giving me the privilege to serve the people of Sarawak and was duly paid like other Ministers for my task.

“And for such an opportunity and privilege I am forever grateful. I will not forget nor betray the organisation which offered me such an opportunity,” said Masing in a statement today.

He was responding to the question if he would join Pakatan Harapan as rumours have it that there was contact made.

Masing, who is also Deputy Chief Minister said he was in the opposition for eight years and had gone through a hard time, like anyone.

“I was in the opposition for eight years. In order to survive, my wife and I planted paddy in order to put food on the table and keep my three kids in school. It was difficult.

“We fought BN through two general elections in 1987 and 1991 and on both occasions we were soundly defeated. After the 1991 general election, we respected the wishes of the majority and rejoined BN in 1994.

“I was appointed into the Sarawak Cabinet and got paid as a minister. It was honest pay for an honest job like any other ministers in the Malaysian government,” said Masing.
