KUCHING, Dec 18: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) boosts connectivity to meet the heightened travel demand during the December festive season and the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations by adding 46 flights to and from Sarawak, including Kuching (KCH) and Miri (MYY).

In a recent statement, the national carrier announced these additional flights as part of a broader plan to add 112 red-eye flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and East Malaysia from Dec 19 to Jan 1, 2025.

These extra flights also include up to 66 additional services to and from Sabah, covering Kota Kinabalu (BKI), Sandakan (SDK), and Tawau (TWU).

With these additions, MAS will operate up to 596 flights between KUL and East Malaysia during this period, offering greater flexibility and convenience for travellers.

The airline is also introducing fixed fares for the Chinese New Year period, with all-in one-way fares starting from RM349 for travel to and from Sabah and Sarawak. These fares are exclusively available on MAS’ official website and mobile app, designed to make travel more affordable for those wishing to reunite with loved ones during the festive season.

Furthermore, the airline will operate 102 additional red-eye flights between Jan 24 and February 4, 2025, increasing the total weekly flights between KUL and East Malaysia to 219.

MAS from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) chief executive officer Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi emphasised that these initiatives reflect the airline’s strategic focus on meeting dynamic customer demands.

“By introducing affordable fixed fares for Chinese New Year, increasing flight frequencies during the peak year-end season, and expanding regional connectivity, Malaysia Airlines is not only enhancing accessibility but also strengthening its position as the airline of choice,” he said.

Starting Jan 28, 2025, MAS will also introduce a seventh daily flight to Jakarta (CGK), providing more options for business and leisure travellers between Malaysia and Indonesia.

With the year-end peak travel season approaching, travellers are encouraged to check in online via the official app or website and to arrive at the airport at least three hours before departure to ensure a smooth travel experience.
