KUCHING, Aug 15: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to officiate the Baram Regatta at the Marudi Waterfront on September 20.
In a TVS report, Marudi assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said new categories will be introduced in the event, which runs from September 18 to 21.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my deepest gratitude to the Premier for his generosity in providing significant allocations to ensure the success of this second regatta.
“This time, we are increasing the first prize for the Raja Baram title. We also have the Unity Cup, Petra Cup, and Premier’s Cup. In addition, we are introducing a new category — the fibre boat paddling race (fibre longboat), which will have its own competition class,” he said.
He said this during a session with community leaders at the N76 Marudi Service Centre on Thursday (Aug 14).
In addition to the races, there will also be other activities such as boat displays and nightly stage performances.
Meanwhile, he added that plans are also in place to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Miri-Marudi Road during the event, subject to the Sarawak Premier’s approval. — DayakDaily
