KUCHING, Jan 15: Marudi assemblyman Datu Dr Pengguang Manggil said long-term solutions will be implemented to upgrade the Ulu Tinjar road into a JKR R1 standard road.

According to a report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Dr Pengguang said in 2021, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved an application to upgrade the road.

“However, it is still at the specification preparation stage, and this project has not yet started,” said Pengguang in his Facebook post on Friday.

Pengguang, who is also Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, noted that as the condition of the road is getting worse, discussions with the Public Works Department (JKR) have been held to use some of the allocations from the approved project to repair and upgrade this road in addition to the repair work that is being carried out now.

He also apologised for the inconveniences faced by the resident in the area.

“I will continue to closely monitor the repair work of this road and the subsequent implementation of the Ulu Tinjar Road Upgrading Project that has been approved.

“I also hope the residents of Marudi would be patient while waiting for the agency responsible for implementing the road project,” he added.
