Marudi among 17 areas placed under Level 1 hot weather alert

KUCHING, Aug 25: Marudi in Sarawak is among 17 areas nationwide placed under Level 1 (caution category) hot weather status by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) today, with the other affected areas located in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah.

In a statement, MetMalaysia said 11 of the affected areas are in Peninsular Malaysia, involving Larut and Matang, Kuala Kangsar, Kampar and Batang Padang in Perak; Kuala Krai in Kelantan; Kuantan, Raub, Temerloh and Pekan in Pahang; as well as Hulu Selangor and Gombak in Selangor.

Five areas in Sabah have also been placed under the same status, namely Telupid, Tenom, Sandakan, Pitas and Beluran, while Marudi is the only affected area in Sarawak.

MetMalaysia said the Level 1 hot weather status is issued when the maximum daily temperature in an area reaches between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
