SIBU, July 16: The Belaga Regatta 2023 will take place from July 30 to August 6 in Pekan Belaga.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications and Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang said this at a press conference after chairing the preparatory meeting for the event.
“Belaga Regatta is an event that all residents look forward to. The last time it was held was in 2018. This year is the seventh edition of the event.
“The side programme will start on July 30, but the main event will take place from August 3 to 6.
“The programme is also an opportunity for tourists from inside and outside Sarawak to visit the Belaga district, which is rich in culture and natural beauty,” he said.
The highlight of the Belaga Regatta is the Rowing Boat Race that offers the highest Lakin Hungey (King of the River) prize of up to RM20,000 and RM10,000 for the open category, as well as several other categories with prizes worth RM163,000.
Among other programmes lined up are a Fun Run, sales stalls, roadshows by government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), e-sports, a traditional hut exhibition, a speed boat race, and Rahmah Sale. — DayakDaily
