KUCHING, Mac 1: The first Parliament session for 2020 which is scheduled for March 9 might be postponed until a date to be determined later.
According to national daily Berita Harian today, when contacted, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof revealed he would be communicating with the Prime Minister’s Office for a new date for the opening of the Parliament session.
“(The session) may not (start on March 9).
“I will be officially communicating with the PMO tomorrow (on the new date),” he was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony of the 14th Parliamentary Assembly is expected to be officiated at by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
Earlier, Pakatan Harapan had urged for the Parliament session on March 9 to start as planned, noting that it is the most appropriate time to decide who has the majority support.
“This is an excellent opportunity to determine the support of the Prime Minister and thus ending the current political turmoil of the country,” the statement said. — DayakDaily
