SERIAN, Nov 23: Sarawak’s first international school will begin operations effective March 1 next year.

According to Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong, the international private school will be located at the former Tunku Putra school premises in Petra Jaya. Tunku Putra has since relocated to The NorthBank, along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway.

“For our international school, we are buying the former Tunku Putra premises to become the first among the five such State-owned international schools to operate.

“It will begin operations effective from March 1, next year,” Manyin said today.

He had earlier officiated at Serian district’s three-day Education Leadership Colloquium 2021 at a hotel here, attended by principals and headmasters from schools in the division.

Manyin said the government has obtained a licence for the international schools to operate, adding that such schools will also be located at 12th Mile Jalan Puncak Borneo, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

When up and fully operational, the schools will accommodate 500 students, he added.

Explaining further, Manyin said the schools will be run by Yayasan Sarawak and would use the Cambridge syllabus.

“For the international schools, they will be under the International General Secondary School Certificate (IGSSC) syllabus conducted by Cambridge,” Manyin explained.

Also present at the programme was Serian district Education officer Charlie Ungang. — DayakDaily
