KUCHING, Sept 5: The Magistrate’s Court here today imposed a penalty of RM1,500 or three months’ imprisonment on a local man for damaging his father’s furniture.
Awang Faridd Shah Awang Zainudin, 41, pleaded guilty to the charge brought before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
He was charged with committing the offence at a house in Kampung Rampangi by breaking the glass of a cabinet that belonged to his father at around 9pm on July 24.
He was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment for not less than one year and not exceeding five years, or a fine, or both.
Based on the facts of the case, the complainant is the wife to the accused. During the incident, the complainant’s husband went on a rampage, causing chaos inside the house and shouting outside.
Similar incidents had occurred in the past, and the accused had previously assaulted the complainant.
The complainant and other family members felt severely threatened by her husband’s actions, prompting her to report the matter to the police, which led to the accused’s arrest on the same day.
Subsequent investigations found that the accused had intentionally frightened the complainant and damaged the cabinet, resulting in approximately RM200 in losses.
Furthermore, the accused had a prior criminal record which included drug abuse, death threats, and intentional harm on others.
Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang appeared for the prosecution while the accused was not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
