Man who allegedly stabbed friend to death further remanded

KUCHING, Nov 22: A man suspected of stabbing his friend to death at a house in Jalan Stephen Yong here has been further remanded for four days to facilitate police investigation.

The remand order for the 26-year-old suspect was issued by Judge Zubaidah Sharkawi at the Magistrate’s Court here today.


The suspect was arrested by police on Nov 15 and was remanded for six days. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a death sentence upon conviction.

The suspect allegedly stabbed the 21-year-old victim in front of the house of the victim’s girlfriend at Green Gate, Jalan Stephen Yong.

The victim, Bong Wei Liang, 21, died at the Sarawak General Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit at about 1.12am on Nov 16.

During the incident, the suspect and the victim were quarrelling. The suspect had a previous relationship with the victim’s girlfriend and wanted to reconcile with her.

The victim punched the suspect and the suspect grabbed a vegetable knife from the kitchen and stabbed the victim in the left rib.

The three of them were drinking at a restaurant before the incident happened, and they are believed to be drunk.

Investigating Officer Insp Nor Ainsah applied for the remand, while the suspect is unrepresented. — DayakDaily
