Man runs amok with iron rod, injures cop, sexagenarian

MARUDI, Nov 25: A 28-year-old man, believed to be under the influence of drugs, ran amok in Long Lama town yesterday morning and injured a cop and a 66-year-old man.

The suspect, from Sungai Dua in Baram, went berserk at about 6.30am along a road in town and smashed two stationary vehicles and hit an elderly man with an iron rod.


Panic-stricken members of the public immediately alerted the police, and four policemen were soon at the scene. But in the process of trying to calm down the suspect, a policeman was injured on his forehead.

Police eventually overpowered the suspect, and the victims were rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.

It is understood that the suspect has tested positive for methamphetamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs 1952, Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief, and Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

Estimate of the damage inflicted is RM10,000. — DayakDaily
