MIRI, April 13: Police here on Thursday night arrested a 36-year-old man after he ran amok and shot his sister in a house in Taman Tunku.
The sister sustained injuries on her right shoulder after the suspect fired a shotgun during the 10.30pm incident.
According to sources, the suspect had suddenly run amok and fired one shot towards his sister before other family members managed to overpower him and contacted the police for assistance.
Police were dispatched immediately to the scene, and are still investigating the actual cause of the incident and where the suspect obtained the shotgun from.
The suspect is currently being detained under police custody and the weapon was seized to facilitate in the investigation.
Miri police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the arrest. Preliminary investigations revealed that the shotgun was home-made.
The injured victim was sent to Miri Hospital for medical treatment.
The case is being investigated under section 307 and 506 of the penal code. — DayakDaily
