Man reported missing following crocodile attack at Sg Skrang, SAR ops launched

Villagers diving into the river in search of the victim while the others keep watch from their boats.

KUCHING, Oct 14: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been launched after a 67-year-old man was reported missing following a crocodile attack at Sungai Skrang today.

The victim was identified as Chaong Baringai from Rh Baloi Skrang, Betong.

According to a report from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, they received a call from the Skrang police station regarding the incident and firefighters from Bomba Betong were deployed to the location.


Based on the local villagers’ report of the incident, the victim was standing by the riverbank while filling his spray tank with water.

The incident was witnessed by the victim’s wife nearby, who said the victim was snatched and taken about 200m upstream by the reptile.

Following the arrival of firefighters at around 11.33am at the location, the SAR operation was launched together with police personnel and 31 villagers. — DayakDaily
