Man remanded over Mukah accident that killed 5yo boy

KUCHING, July 28: A 31-year-old local man has been remanded to assist in the investigation of a recent accident at Kilometre 21, Jalan Mukah-Balingian, which resulted in the death of a five-year-old boy.

According to a statement, Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said that the suspect was arrested on July 27 at 2.30pm when he came forward to make a report at the Mukah District Police Headquarters (IPD) traffic station.

“The suspect will be remanded for two days until July 30,” he said, adding that police also seized a white Perodua Alza.

On July 25, a motorcycle, ridden by a 17-year-old boy with his cousin—the victim—as the pillion passenger, was travelling from Balingian and was attempting to turn into the Kampung Penipah junction when it was struck from behind by a car.

The boy sustained severe head injuries and died while receiving treatment at Mukah Hospital.

Meanwhile, the teenager, who suffered severe facial and leg injuries, was reported to be in stable condition.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
