Man nabbed for stealing footwear

MIRI, Oct 31: A man believed to be involved in stealing at least four pairs of shoes of various brands from a house in Piasau Utara on Friday has been nabbed.

The suspect who is in his late 20’s was apprehended by a Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team around midnight Tuesday in Pujut Batu 1.

According to sources, the suspect had allegedly entered a residential premises in Piasau Jaya and took four pairs of shoes before fleeing the scene.

However, he did not realise that the act has been caught by the house’s Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) system.

A police report was subsequently lodged by the house owner and the footage was also handed over to assist the police probe.

Then on midnight Tuesday midnight in Pujut Batu 1, acting on a public tip-off, CID managed to detect the suspect’s whereabouts and arrested him.

During the arrest, police recovered several stolen pairs of shoes in his possession. However, the suspect’s accomplice is still at large.

According to sources, the suspect and his accomplice are suspected to have been actively involved in stealing shoes from houses, apart from siphoning out fuel from car petrol tanks to make fast money.

The suspect is currently under police custody to facilitate investigations into the case. — DayakDaily
