KUCHING, Sept 8: A 33-year-old man was sentenced to 14 months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for breaking into a workshop and stealing 18 used car batteries.
The accused, Muhammad Attirmidzi Ibrahim, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to a charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft.
According to the charge sheet, Muhammad Attirmidzi broke into a workshop at Jalan Matang at about 3.11am on Aug 27 and carted away 18 used batteries, causing losses estimated at RM600 to the business owner.
The case facts revealed that on Sept 1, around 9.30am, the complainant discovered several car batteries kept under a staircase were missing.
After reviewing the premises’ closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, she saw a man breaking into the shop through the front iron gate and stealing the items.
Two days later, on Sept 3 at about 9.53am, two of the complainant’s workers spotted the accused loitering behind the premises. They detained him and handed him over to the police.
Investigations confirmed that the man in the CCTV footage was the accused, who later admitted to committing the offence. — DayakDaily
