KUCHING, Dec 17: A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 11 years’ imprisonment and five strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here today for sexually assaulting his 13-year-old nephew.
The accused pleaded guilty to two charges under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
The accused committed the acts in a house on Jalan Sejijak between 4 and 6.30am on May 2, 2023.
Judge Iris Awen Jon imposed a sentence of five years and six months’ imprisonment and two strokes of the cane for the first charge.
For the second charge, the court handed down a concurrent sentence of five years and six months’ imprisonment and three strokes of the cane.
The disturbing incident came to light when the victim confided in his mother about the abuse.
The mother immediately took the child to the hospital for medical attention and filed a police report.
A subsequent medical examination confirmed the presence of injuries on the victim’s genitals.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian led the prosecution, while the accused was represented by a lawyer. — DayakDaily
