SIBU, Nov 17: A man from Daro who told the police that it was unnecessary to wear a face mask in public areas has been compounded RM1,500 for the offence.

Sibu District acting police chief, Supt Collin Babat said at about 11am today an integrated standard operating procedures (SOP) Monitoring team was making its rounds at Jalan Channel when they happened upon the man, who was not wearing a face mask.

“When asked why he was not wearing one, he replied that it was not necessary to do so,” said Supt Collin.

The team led by ASP Kushairy Bujang immediately compounded him for the offence.

The compound was issued under Regulation 17 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.

Supt Collin warned that the team would continue with its SOP Monitoring work to ensure that the public does not violate Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan. — DayakDaily
