KUCHING, Nov 2: The Magistrate’s Court here today handed down a four-month prison sentence to a man who threatened to cut off his friend’s hands and feet over a debt of RM30 and a mobile phone charger cable.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali ordered the prison sentence to be enforced from the date of the accused’s arrest on July 21, 2023.
Kamarul Nasroy, 28, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential penalty of up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction.
He was charged with committing the offence around 9pm at a residence in Kampung Siol Kandis on July 20, 2023.
According to the facts of the case, the accused went to his friend’s (the complainant) house to get back a mobile phone charger cable and RM30 that had been borrowed. However, the complainant was not at home at the time, as he was at his workplace on a construction site near Sarawak State Stadium.
Subsequently, the accused indicated that he would search for the complainant if the money and charger cable were not returned, and he also threatened to sever the complainant’s hands and feet.
The threatening words spoken by the accused were overheard by the complainant’s parents, causing them to feel fearful.
The complainant’s father then informed the complainant of the incident over a phone call, prompting the complainant to immediately report the matter to the police for further action.
