Man gets 7-day remand over death of 3yo girl in Kpg Rampangi

KUCHING, Oct 10: The Magistrate’s Court here has remanded a 32-year-old local man for seven days to assist police investigations into the death of a three-year-old girl, who was allegedly abused in Kampung Rampangi, Santubong.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect was arrested around 11am on Oct 9 in Kampung Krian, Jalan Padawan, by a team from the Kuching District Police Headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division, following a report lodged by the victim’s father on Oct 8.

According to police, the 52-year-old father of the victim was informed by a friend around 9.45pm on Oct 7 that his daughter had passed away.

“Initial investigations revealed that the victim is believed to have been abused, resulting in her death. The suspect was subsequently arrested to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement earlier.

Further checks showed that the suspect has six previous criminal and drug-related records. A urine test also found him positive for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years and not less than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. — DayakDaily
