KUCHING, Oct 24: A 62-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here today after he pleaded guilty to threatening to kill his two daughters.
Senior Assistant Registrar Syazwani Sajeli, sitting as Magistrate, handed down the sentence after the accused admitted to committing the offence under the second paragraph of Section 506 of the Penal Code.
The section carries a punishment of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, the incident occurred at about 10.18pm on Oct 20 at a house in Rancangan Perumahan Rakyat (RPR) Batu Kawa.
The accused, who was intoxicated, returned home in a rage and began throwing household items in anger. His daughters, aged 31 and 28, locked themselves in a room out of fear.
Shortly after, they reportedly heard him shouting, “All of you will die!”, which prompted them to flee the house and seek help.
The victims later lodged a police report, which led to the accused’s arrest.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. —DayakDaily
